Review for Canon Pixma MP610, Photo All-in-One (3-in-1) with colour TFT screen and Easy Scroll Wheel.:
Nightmare
Bought printer on the Wed received next day, Great service from Amazon.
Now for the Printer. Unpacked and setup which took me nearly 1 hour. It takes 13 mins just to allign the print heads. Done test sheet worked great.
Now to print some letters and photo's. This is where the nightmare began. Printed a 1 page letter which the printer decided to spread over several pages also when I printed 1 photo it was also spread over several pages. I uninstalled the canon software and started again and tried the printer on my laptop (same problem). I phoned canon and they said to only use their dedicated software that it came with to print photo's but still same problem. After spending nearly i hour to canons useless helpline costing premium rate I was told the printer is faulty and as its under 2 weeks old to return it to Amazon for a exchange or a refund. WARNING When I phoned canon they already had all my details name. address phones number. email and what type of computer I had and I didn't tell them. Canon told me when I installed the printer it automatically sends all your details over the internet. Never again will I buy canon. I have now bought an HP PHOTOSMART C6280 and its fantastic.

Avoid at all costs
This really is an appalling machine. I have so far spent upwards of 12 hours trying to install it, with increasingly wacky suggestions from the HP help facility. I am running Windows XP SP3, so there is no reason why it shouldn't install, but there you are - problems all the way. Heed the warnings on this and other sites and steer clear of this disaster - I wish I had - going back tomorrow!HP Photosmart C5280 All-In-One Printer - 32 ppm, USB, 4800dpi, LCD Display

Review for Canon PIXMA MP 210 Photo Printer:
Not as good as it looks!
I was given this printer as a replacement for a Canon IP4300 which had developed a fault, and was told it was"a better printer". It's probably my fault for not checking the specs, but I find it totally inappropriate for my purpose, which is the printing of greeting cards.

Firstly, the printer will not take card which is more than 100 gsm. Mine is 138 gsm! I managed to get a print, but had to place the sheets in the tray one at a time.

Secondly, the colour reproduction was nothing like the original; I had to tinker about with the colour values to get something approximate.

Thirdly, the resolution was poor. With previous printers I have been able to use the"normal" setting; with this printer I had the use the maximum setting - by the time I had done about fifty prints, including several which I had to throw away, I had used an ENTIRE colour cartridge.

I am now going out to buy a new printer!

Review for HP Photosmart C4280 All-In-One Printer - 30 ppm, USB, 4800 dpi:
Wonderful little printer (and works great with Linux!)
This is a superb little printer at a superb little price. I've had it for a while now, and haven't yet discovered any annoyances at all.

I *would* have given it 5 stars, but I'm afraid I knocked one off because of the manufacturer's mind-bogglingly cheapskate decision not to include the necessary printer cable. If the cable was an expensive item, it might be understandable, but since you can buy one for only £2-£4, it's just... well, it's just plain cheapskate.

Of course, if you're replacing an older printer, you'll already have the cable, but that's not really the point.

Having got that off my chest, I've nothing else against this machine whatsoever.

I use Linux, not Windows, and I half-expected this to be a problem. In fact, it wasn't. I plugged it into my Arch Linux machine, and everything worked immediately. It even prints from my Ubuntu Linux laptop across my wireless network.

Print quality is great, and it prints *considerably* faster than my previous printer, an Epson.

It uses two cartridges, one for black and one for colour. This is also much better than the Epson, which required *4* cartridges, and refused to print at all if even one of them fell below the required level (the 'required level' was always a mystery to me, because the printer regularly declared that a cartridge was empty even when it was plainly about 30-40% full.)

Anyway, to sum up, I think this is a great printer and at a great price.

4 in 1...
This printer is very nice. A very good scanning and copying function, with a very thorough set-up process. The printer is very quick and efficient with good ease of use with just the press of a button. The printer also has a fax function but I have never bothered to set that up. The only problem I do have with it though is that it uses quite a bit of ink, and the ink isn't cheap. For the price it is at now is very reasonable; it is of very good build, and looks expensive. The unit itself though is quite large and takes up a bit of room. It does also need a USB cable but they are a few pounds also on amazon!

Canon SELPHY CP740 Portable Photo Printer

Review for Canon SELPHY CP740 Portable Photo Printer:
Small but beautiful
Excellent product. The instructions are fairly straight forward and printer was working within a short time. Print quality is excellent. Difficult to distinguish from traditional prints.
I have used it mostly direct from camera on site (use a power inverter from your car cigarette lighter) and it has been a hit with everyone who has seen it.
As long as you are aware of the limited print size, this has so far been an excellent buy. If you want mobile printing of photographs, or just to take it round to Auntie's so she can chose which pictures she wants, you will find it does the job well.

It simply provides poor value for money at £75.20. It doesn't copy or scan or fax or have built-in wireless, it doesn't even include a very cheap USB cable which most people need to use this out of the box! The Canon Pixma 3-in-1 options are far superior.

Epson Stylus Photo RX685 All-in-One Printer, 6.3cm LCD, USB

Review for Epson Stylus Photo RX685 All-in-One Printer, 6.3cm LCD, USB:
Day 1 and off to a bad start...
So far it's day 1. No USB connection which is mean. Luckily I managed to find one in a drawer. Unpacked everything else and went to connect to the mains - the plug is 2 pin European style not 3 pin uk style and as I have no adaptor I can't connect until tomorrow which is infuriating as I have disconnected my old printer and taken it to the garage! Tried to read the manual as the diagrams on the installation leaflet are not straightforward - found the instruction booklet is in German, French and Dutch - but not English. This version is marketed for mainland Europe, not for the UK. I hope things improve once I get a mains cable...

Review for Epson Stylus Photo PX800FW Photo All In One Printer with Fax and WiFi:
Excels at photo printing, good for mac
I purchased this printer to replace my HP3310 which was of a similar spec, but just wasn't producing good enough photo prints after 3 years of (good) service. I have only ever owned HP printers, so changing to Epson was quite a big deal for me. At around £250, it isn't cheap either considering you can get a wireless enabled printer for less than £100 these days.

Firstly, this printer is aesthetically very pleasing to look at and compact in its nature, with no odd parts sticking out here or there. It has a big touch panel display, which is very intuitive to use. Note however that when viewing your photos and scans on the display, it will only use up the middle portion. Still big though. It has 2 paper trays, one for A4 size paper and the other for 5x7 or lower size photo paper, which saves you having to fiddle about changing paper depending on your activity. Operation is very quiet, prints come out quickly, even photos.

Now as I mentioned earlier, the quality of photo printing is awesome. The same picture printed in a professional lab doesn't look as good as the output on this. This is definitely a printer for photo enthusiasts. Ordinary printing looks no better or worse than any other printer to be honest. The scans come in at respectable times. Photocopying works as expected. I don't use fax so I can't comment. There are a few other bits and pieces which may appeal to certain people like being able to print ruled/graph/note paper straight from the printer (filofax anyone?) and something called colouring book mode (for kids). The direct to CD/DVD printing is welcome and the tray is built in and automated. A memory card reader is built in, as is a pictbridge USB port. On the back you have your ethernet, USB, power and fax inputs. On the top is an auto document feeder. Changing the ink is as simple as lifting the scanner lid.

The printer is supposed to be energy efficient which is a bonus in this day and age. I do have some concerns about this printer though. I've read on the net that epson print heads tend to break down just out of warranty, only time will tell. The ink cartridges appear to be quite small, so it may not be the cheapest price/print ratio. The paper output tray is a little flimsy, as is the flap that covers the paper trays. Bluetooth is not standard, you will need a bluetooth dongle to enable this feature. Disappointing on a printer this expensive. As is the lack of duplexing, on top of the fact that the duplexing unit (at around £30) is seemingly impossible to get hold of at the time of writing this review.

A note about setup on a OSX Leopard. The included setup is straightforward. It has a step by step configuration for using wirelessly. Again pretty easy to setup because it pulls your routers settings off the router via an ethernet cable (you must connect the ethernet cable to the router before setting up the wireless), all you need is your WEP password or similar. I believe the printer has 'N' specification wireless which is plus for most recent mac hardware purchasers. The drivers and colour profiles are installed via the setup CD and of course you get a small suite of applications to use but most people will be using iPhoto or Aperture to print their pictures. Using the printer in Aperture is alot easier than the HP because when you select for example borderless 4x6 the printer knows to use paper in the photo tray automatically (unlike the HP). The epson software is alot less bloated than the HP software for macs (anyone who has had to download software updates from HP knows what I mean). Overall, I feel the mac support from epson is alot better than HP, which is one thing that did worry me with the switch.

Overall I would recommend this printer for the quality of photo prints and the way in which features are implemented. It is a quick, quiet, attractive and easy to use. If its within your budget, go for it.

Superb, and terrific value
Lovely printer, good value, wifi works brilliantly.

I bought this to replace an aged 895CXi, and it hasn't disappointed in anyway. Quick, quiet, good output. Lovely to have a network printer at this price. I really can't fault it. I don't us it much for plain text - use mono laser for that - but anything mixed, or that I need in colour is dispatched really nicely. I do use inkjet paper to minimise bleed/spidering, and it's worth it.

I have recently been looking for a printer that would print off excellent photos and also cds, and I found it!!!! The EPSON STYLUS PHOTO RX585. I understand that the printer does shake a little when printing, but this has no adverse effect to the printing quality of the photos. The rx585 prints are outstanding for a versatile 3 in 1 printer. Canon product contact
I note in the reviews the difficulty some buyers have when contacting Canon. I agree the website for Canon for product support can be mystifying to say the least. I have several Canon products myself, ranging from the brilliant Pixma iP4200, to camcorders and scanners, so am well tested in the Canon 'contact' arena - I have always found the Canon Helpdesk (Freephone 00800 22666767) at PO Box 614 Borehamwood WD6 9AA to be very helpful.

I hope this helps Amazon viewers/readers.

Review for Epson Stylus Photo R2880 A3 Photo Printer with individual inks:
Accurate prints at last !
I purchased Epson's R2880 to replace my trusty Epson 1270 photo printer which, after 9 years producing excellent prints finally gave up the ghost. I was keen to see what improvements had been made in 9 years of development.

The printer is quite large but easy to assemble, and the software installation proceeded with no problems. Reviews say that the new printer interface is an improvement on the old one. I dissagree with this. It's still good, but not an improvement.

So what were the first prints like ? A bit dissapointing - too washed out with weak colours. So I reduced the brightness and increased the contrast in the printer preferences and the results were then very good indeed. In fact the colours matched exactly those on the monitor screen, something I have never been able to achieve before.

Although the R2880 has higher resolution than the 1270, this did not show in the prints. What did show was the printing speed - just over 2 minutes to do an A4.

The pigment inks do not soak into the paper like dye inks do, but sit on the surface, so the resulting prints are not as glossy but still very good. An they should last a lifetime.

Would I reccommend this printer. You bet. The results really are very good indeed and the printer feels well made. I have printed many thousands of images over the years on several different printers, and the R2880 gives better results by far. Enough said.

BEWARE!! - Whilst I have no doubt that this product produces good quality pictures (the test print was really good), after I installed the printer and rebooted my PC I discovered that my Norton Internet Security (2007) had been disabled! Trying to launch Norton manually just produced an error message that it could not be started. So, somehow, installing the HP C8180 had disabled my internet security software. I had to to rebuild my PC and recover to an earlier backup, which took a long time and much inconvenience. The printer has now been returned and Amazon gave me a full refund within 3 days.

Canon Pixma iP 4500 Premium Photo Printer

Used Price: £74.99

Review for Canon Pixma iP 4500 Premium Photo Printer:
Pixma iP4500
Bought this Canon Pixma iP4500 to replace my old Epson C62 which eventually gave up the ghost after nearly 7 yrs on a diet of compatible cartridges. I found the set up a little long winded, the biggest problem was working out how to disable both the anti virus system and the programs which open on start up. I have never had to do this before when installing either hardware or software. But eventually I had the printer up and running. So far the results have been most impressive, it is much quicker, quieter and has a far superior photo print quality than my old Epson. However one would expect this to be the situation on a printer 7 years newer. I have made several test prints of photos already printed by my old Epson using the same programs and print sizes. The results have been very impressive with both the colours and image sharpness being almost identical to those stored on my computer. Another excellent Canon product.

Review for Epson Perfection V350 Photo scanner 4800 X 9600 DPI Auto Film Loader:
Nice scans - when it works
I think for the money the quality of the scans from this device exceeds all expectations. What a shame that it is the most unreliable, fragile, infuriating piece of kit from Epson I've ever encountered. When using the film strip scanner (the principle reason for buying it) it constantly reports film jams (both real and imaginary), and other spurious problems. When I first got it It took three evenings to get it to do more than one scan without rebooting and it continues to frustrate. By the way I'm not a beginner, I'm a graphic design professional and have been scanning at work daily for well over ten years, I just needed something to digitise forty years worth of snapshot negs at home. I'm staying with the V350 simply because the next step up is about £500. If you can live with its highly strung personality this scanner is remarkable value. If you're inclined to be impatient it will drive you mad.
