The epson stylus sx 400 printer
I ordered this printer on 12th oct it arrived on the morning of 15th oct, i unpacked it and 15 minutes later i was using it. Its certainly the best printer i have had, its a little noisey when starting up, but it prints, copy's and the photo prints are excellent, all i'm waiting for is to see how long the inks last. The printer comes with a set of cartridges. I would recommend this printer.

Review for HP LASERJET P1005 14PPM USB 2.0, 2MB, 150SH:
Nice little Laserjet for Home/Student use
I am using this HP P1005 Laserjet printer with my Apple 13" Macbook running OSX Leopard (10.5). I purchased this over the similarly priced Canon i-SENSYS LBP2900B Laser Printer due to the lack of Macintosh drivers from Canon and the many positive reviews for HP I came across when researching small monochrome laser printers on the internet.

Installation was quick and simple and inside the box was a leaflet for a £35 rebate from HP on the condition that you complete 2 surveys on your printer usage over a year, which was a pleasant surprise.

The printer is very compact and folds away its trays neatly when there is no paper inside. It powers-up very fast and is relatively quick to process information prior to printing.

The main criticisms I find with this printer however are that the heat produced from printing will bend your paper slightly, the supplied toner cartridge is only half-full (marketed as a"trial" cartridge), there is no USB cable supplied in the box and if you're printing more than 10 pages you begin to notice that laser-printer ozone smell, a necessary byproduct of the printing process.

Criticisms aside for around £50 this is a good quality printer. Full toner cartridges are around £40 but they are good for approx. 1500 sheets resulting in printing costs of around £0.03p (~£0.02p/sheet, not inc. paper). A good purchase and very useful for homes, small business' and students who do not require to print in colour.

Review for hp laserjet P1006 printer:
A good little printer
This is a good little printer with a small footprint, good build quality, very easy set-up, the reassurance of HP reliability, and a design that is easy on the eye. It took me only a few minutes to set up, following HP's step-by-step instructions, and immediately delivered a good quality print. It was recommended by a technician friend as worth the few extra pounds it costs compared with its cheaper rivals and I have not been disappointed.

A 'kettle lead' to connect the printer to the mains is supplied. If you do not already have a current-style printer cable (4 pin USB type A to 4 pin USB type B) you will need to buy one.

Review for Samsung ML-2240 22ppm Mono Laser Printer:
Could'nt ask for better!!!
I ordered the ML-2240 from Amazon.co.uk on the 22th of Oct, and opted for the free delivery. I was very disappointed when a rcv'd notification indicated that it will be delivered between the 28th Oct - 4th Nov. In fact I was contemplating cancelling the order, as like the rest of us, I hate waiting as well. But surprisingly, at 7am on 25th Oct, I received the printer via City Link delivery, amazing that free delivery was made in 3 days.

Only disappointment with the delivery was that the packaging does not include the USB Printer cable, if I knew, I would have included it in the order..

As for the printers performance, I'm amazed.. I've printed some 800 pages of perfect quality text at amazing speed in the past 24 hrs, before I ran out of toner.. Not bad, when the toner included is only supposed to last 600 pages..

Performs like a breeze, is faster than expected, adequate memory to print bulky documents continuously, and is easy to assemble, though the instructions are not included.

Only other drawback, is that the paper tray is unable to hold more than 150-200 sheets at a go..

Nevertheless, an amazing buy, I could'nt have asked for better, after all, it's a laserjet for below GBP50/-

Just remember to include the USB Printer cable in the order!!!

Review for Epson Stylus SX405 WiFi Edition All In One Printer:
A Nightmare
This printer has been a nightmare to set up.After many talks with Epson on line chat i finally got it working. The manual seems fine but they have left so much out that you need to know. To let you all know, you have to set it up on each individual printer(taking the printer to that pc) to get it working across a network.this means taking it to every pc you have, connecting it up running the software(30 mins minimum)then adding the print server.I was really fed up by the end of all this.
The printer itself is great and also the scanner.Oh why oh why make it so complicated.Think i should have gone with another make.So i would do some research before buying a wifi unit.Look at the manual online.Oh bye the way Epson at present do not have any information on there site about the WIFI model.

HP Hewlett Packard Officejet 6310 All-in-One Fax/Copier/Printer/Scanner

New Price: £96.97

Review for HP Hewlett Packard Officejet 6310 All-in-One Fax/Copier/Printer/Scanner:
Good choice for home network setup
I have a wired home network and wanted a printer that would connect to this, cope with a medium level of home use, and photocopy. This printer seemed to tick all the boxes. I also print the occasional photograph but mainly use the quick draft mode to print documents, letters, etc.

Set up was a doddle. After assembling the printer (trays, faceplates etc), inserting inks, switching on, and attaching to my router, I was ready to go. My Vista machine took 5 minutes to initialise. The XP machine slightly longer; 10-15 minutes. Both were full installs. (There are separate installation CDs for Windows (non Vista), Vista, and Mac). The XP machine played up a bit with various system programs falling over, but the HP software can automatically update itself, and the problem seems to have gone away. I'm guessing it might have something to do with security settings (firewall, anti-virus, etc). These are all set to max on the XP machine, and are at a minimal level on the Vista machine.

Note: This printer needs a solid surface to sit on. If you try balancing it on a stand or a wobbly table, the speed of the printer internals will make it rock about, adversely affecting the print quality.

Photocopying is quick and painless. I just use the flatbed scanner to photocopy one sheet at a time. All it takes is one button to either copy in colour or black and white. The computer does not need to be switched on. There is also a document feeder for photocopying multiple sheets.

I don't use the fax facility - so can't comment on that.

The printer comes with a black and tri-colour cartridges, to give 4 colour printing. There is not much information on what numbers you can use, but a quick search on the internet reveals:

Black: Either 336 (5ml), 338 (11ml), or 339 (21ml).
Tri-colour: Either 342 (5ml), or 343 (7ml).

The back of the manual also lists 348 Photo, and 100 Gray as compatible, but makes no mention of how or when you would use them. After a lot more searching I found that the 348 photo cartridge is another tri-colour cartridge (light magenta, light cyan, and black) which replaces your black-only cartridge to give you 6 colour printing for photos.

I printed a test picture (a garden scene) to test the difference between 4 and 6 inks. At first glance they look the same. But take a closer look and I found water and rock surfaces were more natural with less noise. The fern fronds were more defined, and there was more detail to be seen in the dark shaded areas. If you are printing photos to keep in an album, I would say the photo cartridge is essential and well worth the money.

I'm not sure the 100 Gray cartridge can be used in this printer. It's not colour coded where the cartridges push in, and as I have no intention of printing black and white photos, I'm not going to investigate further.

To sum up: I would recommend this printer for light office use (eg. someone self employed) or to anyone who wants a bog standard home printer that does a bit of everything. I would not recommend it to someone who mainly prints photos or plans to use it for heavy office use.

Hope this review has been of some use.

Review for HP Deskjet 6940 Color Inkjet Printer:
Great wireless network printer!
I took delivery of my HP deskjet this morning. It has taken 1.5 hours to get everything up and going. Which in my book is pretty good! I have installed it using the ethernet cable into my wireless router, and then wirelessly onto 2 Windows Vista PCs, one XP PC and one XP Laptop. All 4 computers are connecting to the printer and working fine.

The build and print quality look really good too.

I have had Epsons for the last 20 years but got fed-up of replacing them an an almost annual basis! So this is my first HP printer, and so far I am impressed with the ease of use and setting up on my wireless network.

Had a quick look at ink cartridge costs too, and they appear to be cheaper than the Epson ones.

Polaroid Pogo Photo Printer - is it worth it?
Fantastic little printer. Any printer that that doesn't need ink cartridges is a good start for me. I bought this last week for just under £90. I got it within 4 days on the free postage. Once it arrived it was really easy to charge, set up and use. The initial battery charging only took two hours. I hooked up my phone to it using the bluetooth function in no time at all, and then I was able to start printing a few test photos straight away. I took it out with me at the weekend and it was great. It was small enough to carry in my pocket without causing an inconvenience. I took some photos with my phone during the night out and was able to print off whichever one I chose to immediately. All my friends were impressed and even more so with the quality of the prints. Considering the number of people looking at the print it was also a good thing the prints don't smudge either.

Overall I'm really happy with my purchase and would recommend this to anyone. An excellent purchase which I'm sure I soon won't be able to do without, and a bargain for the price.

Review for Epson Perfection V350 Photo scanner 4800 X 9600 DPI Auto Film Loader:
Nice scans - when it works
I think for the money the quality of the scans from this device exceeds all expectations. What a shame that it is the most unreliable, fragile, infuriating piece of kit from Epson I've ever encountered. When using the film strip scanner (the principle reason for buying it) it constantly reports film jams (both real and imaginary), and other spurious problems. When I first got it It took three evenings to get it to do more than one scan without rebooting and it continues to frustrate. By the way I'm not a beginner, I'm a graphic design professional and have been scanning at work daily for well over ten years, I just needed something to digitise forty years worth of snapshot negs at home. I'm staying with the V350 simply because the next step up is about £500. If you can live with its highly strung personality this scanner is remarkable value. If you're inclined to be impatient it will drive you mad.

Review for Dell 1320CN Network Colour Laser Printer:
Great pice of kit
Arrived in 2 days. Unpacked (I didn't appreciate how big it was - the wife was annoyed), the network bit was plugged in and it was hooked up to my router (BT voyager) via some Ethernet cable. I then put the disk in one of my PCs which recognised it immediately, but asked for a name for it. I didn't know what to put, so called Dell tech support and spoke (eventually) to a nice Scottish chap who remotely took over my PC and sorted the problem in 5 mins.

Once that was done it was a doddle to install it on my other PCs (a mixture of XP, XP X64 and Vista home), 4 connected by wireless and 1 hard-wired to my router.

Great quality - far better than my other black only laser, and the paper comes out non-curled.

(does anyone want to buy an unused Brother black toner cartrige :) )

Review for Epson Stylus R800 Inkjet Colour Photo Printer:
Don't waste your time and money on this one
Avoid this printer like the plague. It gobbles ink like the worst kind of binge drinker and is no better quality than my daughters £30.00 HP 3 in 1 printer/scanner/photocopier. By far the worst investment I've made to date where printers are concerned. I am constantly replacing inks as it appears to dry up and simply vanishes after a few weeks of it not being used. I had an Epson Color Photo 600 for 10 years and loved it, this isn't a patch on it and I wished I hadn't given it away now. Don't buy this printer unless you have a lot of money and time to waste in buying and changing inks and for no good reason. I had to give it one star because it wouldn't let me give it a zero rating. I've had it from new for 2 years now and it's been like it since I bought it.

hp laserjet P2015

Our Price: £172.41 & this item Delivered FREE in the UK with Super Saver Delivery. See details & conditions
New Price: £159.00

Review for hp laserjet P2015:
Good printer let down by drivers
The two stars are for drivers and support. The printer itself seems to be OK once you get it working. From bitter experience, if you are planning to use Vista on a locally-connected P2015, you will fail unless you do EXACTLY as I say below. (valid as of October 2008; things may change in the future):

1. Place the CD that comes in the box under your coffee cup. It has no other use.
2. Do Not call HP tech support. Their representatives are apparently trained to be evasive about Vista support, and they will give you wrong information about choosing and installing drivers. They will also tell you to ignore everything you read on the HP Web site about Vista compatibility, which (astoundingly) is sound advice.
3. Download the PCL 5 Vista drivers from the HP product page. Do not use PCL 6 or Universal drivers.
4. Do not run the"EZ Install" program that downloads with the drivers. Although these are Vista drivers, that program does not work with Vista.
5. Add the printer through the Windows control panel. Choose the highest-numbered USB port. Tell it you"Have Disk", then browse to where the drivers downloaded (probably C:HP LaserJet P2015 PnP)
6. Choose the first of the two .inf files you will be offered
7. Proceed with the installation.

My opinion: HP's misinformation and evasiveness about Vista support for their printers should make buyers think twice about choosing the brand until they get their act together. While one could reasonably blame Microsoft for the incompatibilities, the fact is that most computers sold today have Vista, which has now been the primary PC Operating System for around two years, and peripheral manufacturers need to get on board. Until then, having great hardware is irrelevant. It is not acceptable for what must be the largest computer hardware manufacturer to still be selling hardware that is not compatible out of the box with the current version of Windows (worse still that their download drivers have an installation program that will not work with Vista).

Review for Samsung SCX 4200 - Multifunction ( B/W ) - laser - copying (up to): 18 ppm - printing (up to): 18 ppm - 250 sheets - Hi-Speed USB:
Works Great Under Linux
I bought this printer for it's compatability with Linux, and while initially I had troubles using it under Fedora Core 6 (x86_64), I found a cure to get round it at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=214189 . I tried it with a few other flavours of Linux including Suse 10.1 (x86_64), Ubuntu, and Knoppix and it worked straight away. Simply download the latest version of the driver from the Samsung website, and follow the instructions. The scanner also works fine and the copier does not even require a computer.
The print quality is fantastic for my purpouses (student) and it's speed is very good for the price. It comes with a starter toner cartridge but no USB lead.
Under Windows, it installed fine and comes with some extra software for scanning, editing etc., but no-one really cares about that, it's all about the Linux, Baby!
