Nope I can't tell if this camera will meet your needs..But warn you when buying your camera no mater what make. Be sure that the camera is distributed from the UK otherwise you won't get any rebate and if you do get a fault you will have to ship it to the country of origin.. If in any doubt get email proof from the seller before you part with your hard earnt cash..I have been researching a new camera and have been surprised by the number of non UK cameras being sold on Amazon and by other companies on the web.

Review for Nikon D40 Digital SLR Camera - Black (18-55mm Lens Kit):
A D40 for £220.86? It must be Christmas!
I'm not going to add to the volumes already written about this camera, there is little point. When I moved up from a digital compact I couldn't quite afford a DSLR (starting around the £450 mark) so I bought a quality bridge camera (Panasonic FZ20, which is a truly remarkable and very capable camera). I always missed my previous SLR though (Nikon FM - the very epitome of manual photography). The D40 feels like coming home, it just feels right. There are reviews aplenty if you want the technical stuff (Google searching will provide) and I too regret the disappearance of depth of field scales, but that's my contribution, it just feels right. Oh, and it takes rather good pictures if you point it in the right direction with the right instructions (or leave the tricky decisions to the D40, up to you). For £220.86 there are compact cameras that cost more and do significantly less. I love it.4
Review for Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd Digital Camera - Black (8.0MP, 18x Optical Zoom) 2.7" LCD:
The pictures are very good but probably not excellent. But I don't think you could expect any better at this price. Some reviews have mentioned poor quality grainy pics - mine have been fine. Movie quality is also very impressive. Other reviews have suggested the camera is difficult to use. I couldn't disagree more. Given the amount of features available the menu systems couldn't be presented any easier. Also the manual is entirely in English (unlike some other reviewers).
If you're looking for a good quality, low cost camera that does a lot more than a compact then buy this camera. If you're looking for amazing picture quality and consider yourself a pro - don't buy it! (but you'll need to spend a heck of lot more than 140 quid!)

Very good camera for a bargain price!
I bought this camera as a step up from a normal compact. I'm very pleased with it. It has loads of good features and the zoom is excellent. I toyed with getting the 5800 but it doesn't have image stabilisation which I think is almost essential unless your a pro or using a tripod. The pictures are very good but probably not excellent. Perfect for the transition from compact camera to digital SLR
Have had the D60+VR lens for a couple of days now and am thoroughly impressed. I did a lot of research online before buying and finally went for a Nikon after using a friend's D300 at a wedding. The controls are intuitive, the image quality and vibration reduction features excellent. The display at the back really helps the newcomer to dSLRs understand the implications and relationships between shutter speed and aperture, white balance etc and there is a handy help function which gives basic explanations, making dSLR photography highly intuitive and the learning curve very steep but easy. I bought the camera with a Transcend 16gb class 6 card from Amazon and the write speed is more than adequate. Highly recommended.6
Review for Canon EOS 40D Digital SLR Camera (incl. EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens Kit):
I started looking at the 350D then the 400D and then the 450D, but luckily decided to opt for the 40D, especially as the additional price over the 450D seemed justified for the extra build. To be honest the features of the 450D are not that far behind the 40D, although what you are paying for is mainly the build quality - die cast aluminum and stainless steel body, etc.
Similar to the 450D the 40D includes a 'live view' function, which you may feel is essential if you are used to a compact, although in reality you are unlikely to use very often.
The lens is very good and another reason why I opted for the 40D over the 400D or 450D, although I believe the lens on the 450D is superior to that of the 400D.
You get a 17 - 85mm, which in old SLR terminology relates to 28 - 135mm. It is very quiet in operation, being a USM lens, and also includes IS (Image Stabilisation) which does reduce the effects of camera shake, especially in low light conditions, by up to 4 stops.
The stabilisation is actually in the lens which may seem odd compared to other lens/camera manufacturers, although it does mean that the image you see through the viewfinder has been stabilised as opposed to other systems which only appear stabilised after you have taken the photo.
Camera is intuitive and easy to use in fully auto mode, until you become familiar with all the manual features. This is a large camera, especially suitable for those with larger clumsy hands!
I have no regrets whatsoever and would recommend to anyone who is above the amateur, or at least thinks they are, who wishes to pay that extra to own a higher quality 'fully loaded' product.
Don't be put off by 10+ mpg image; this is sufficient for images up to at least A3 if not even A2. Last point - I have purchased the Sandisk 4GB Extreme III card which I believe is an excellent choice having researched just about every other card out there. Really no need to go above 4GB as this is sufficient for 999+ jpg at the highest quality. Unlike compacts there is no facility for recording mpeg video so no need for big cards.
For those tempted, don't delay your purchase - you will not be dissapointed.

Pro quality product - skgr
Having delayed moving to a DSLR for a number of years, I feel the market has now stabalised in the way of features, and prices have come down considerably.I started looking at the 350D then the 400D and then the 450D, but luckily decided to opt for the 40D, especially as the additional price over the 450D seemed justified for the extra build. A superb piece of kit. This is my third Canon camera purchased over several years and my first DSLR. Review for Sony DSLRA350K Camera (14.2 MP) inc 18-70mm lens:
A great piece of kit
More pixels than you can shake a stick at, read the manual to find all sorts of tricks (although tinkering brings a lot to hand anyway). More intuitive than it first appears - menus are inevitable. Standard lens OK for general shots, but the 75-300mm zoom gives a lot more range particularly for outdoor shots. Spare battery and a few CF cards not a bad idea if you are going snap-happy, but will get hundreds on most cards. Viewing and deleting is very quick, no massive start-up time. Does need technical savvy as do most SLRs, otherwise use a regular camera. Flash card adapter for PC access would be a good accessory, as would simple bag - none supplied for a high end item like this.11
Review for Nikon D80 Digital SLR Camera (18-135mm Lens Kit):
For more and more indepth reviews I suggest looking at the items for the body only or 18-135mm kit. If you're a purist/hardcore user, you'll go body only and buy all your bits seperately. If, like me, you're somewhere in between you'll go for the 18-135 kit. With a lens (and it's a better lens) AND cheaper than this configuration at time of writing.
Summary: Great camera, but not a great kit. Go for the 18-135mm version, much better overall value.

Absolutely amazing
Decided to upgrade my wonderful eod400d and lenses. After reading quite a lot about it, I had decided against the 450d and would go for the 40d instead. However, after reading about this camera, I could not resist..... it was quite a lot more, but decided that I could buy this one and not need another camera for many years. If you do not already have good lenses, the starter kit with the 17-85 USM IS lens, good value combination. Only disadvantages compared to a lesser lens and the 400d is the size and weight, however feels much more stable and well built. Now down the the picture quality...... all I can say is AMAZING! Even in low light (a common eos flaw) this camera took great shots without the flash, crystal clear..... only had it a day or so, but convinced this was well worth every penny13
Review for Nikon D300 Body Only:
Hitting manual focus has been impossible for me to do consistently on the D70, so I spent a while on that, and I have to say that I'd choose the a700 if that was the only issue. The viewfinder image just felt closer and cleaner and bigger. But I actually hit focus pretty well with all of them. So it fell to the other key issue for me, which is noise, particularly as I shoot a lot in low light and use high ISO. I was particularly sceptical of the Nikon following my recent experience with the Coolpix P5100 (see my amazon review) which claims ISO 3200, but where I found images sometimes impossibly noisy even at ISO 200. Nikon's claims for the P5100 are so absurd, in my view, that I couldn't help but be concerned about their claims even for the much larger sensor in the D300.
So, cue an hour shooting a display rack of black camera bags, all made of the same type of woven nylon canvas. We shot at 400 and at 1600 on all three. We shot jpegs at maximum quality. Lighting was mixed, mainly fluorescent, with some daylight from the shop door. All three on auto for white balance.
The Pentax lit up the black bags in greens, blues and reds. It was worse at 1600, but it was still pretty awful at 400. The noise had a very jaggy quality.
The Sony was, at first sight, not so bad, a lot of greens and blues, very little red, and a much smoother look to the image. Looking closer, though, there was a softness to the image, as if noise-reduction processing had also thrown away detail of the canvas weave.
When you looked at edges, both cameras hit focus well, but within a particular shape, the Pentax simply looked much sharper. The Sony, in fact, gave a texture that reminded me powerfully of the Coolpix P5100. Sharp (often oversharpened) edges to discrete shapes or forms, but a sort of watercolour-like blurriness within them.
The D300 ... black camera bags. Highlights, midtones and shadows all in shades of black and grey. We both just stood and said 'Wow'. Repeatedly. And then tried to find other ways to phrase it. But it was still basically, 'Wow'. Same story at 400 and 1600. Another reviewer has said 'noise, what noise?' and it really is like that.
If image quality is the criterion, then choosing between these three cameras is a no-brainer. You would be off your trolley not to choose the D300. I would add, if handling, menu structure, the positioning and labelling of buttons etc. is your criterion, then at almost every point the D300 comes last. If this is a 'professional' interface, you can forget it. It's just plain bad. But you're going to get used to all that.
I now want a D300. It's that simple.

Review for Nikon D300 Body Only:
Wow
Spent an hour and a half in Jessops this afternoon with a helpful sales assistant, and compared three DSLR bodies I've considered as the next step from my D70. Stick with Nikon DX and my existing DX lenses? Go back to Pentax and move to the K20? Follow a friend's rave reviews of her Sony a700 and start again on a new system?Hitting manual focus has been impossible for me to do consistently on the D70, so I spent a while on that, and I have to say that I'd choose the a700 if that was the only issue. Review for Nikon D60 AF-S 18-55 DX II:
As soon as it arrived I was able to shoot some good pictures without reading the"How to take a Picture" chapter in the user manual. Having now read the manual and watched the Nikon D60 Tutorial on the Nikon UK website I am now confident about the camera and how it works. I just need to get my eye in.
The menu's are concise and easy to understand and the instructions are straightforward. Its nice to hold and much lighter than I expected which makes it less of a drag to take it out.
The image quality is great. Vibrant colours, crisp, clear and detailed pictures make it a pleasure to use. The high ISO availabilty is brilliant and not grainy as I thought it would be.
In summary, I read many, many reviews on this camera and I have to say it still exceded my expectations. Chuffed to NAAFI breaks with it.
Don't faff about like I did trying to decide which camera to go for, just go to Amazon and buy this, it will save you a lot of time because this really is the camera you are looking for!

D700
I started digital with the D100 which at the time I thought was pretty good, the D200 then came out and I purchased that. The improvement over the D100 was pretty marked. When the D300 arrived I decided that the improvements over the D200 didn't warrant an upgrade. I decided to save my pennies and go the whole hog and buy a D3. Imagine my surprise when they announced the D700! I ordered one right away and it turned up early in August. What can I say about this piece of kit. It does all the blurb tells you it will do, the full frame being a great bonus. I went digital from an F70 so all of my lenses were full frame compatible thank goodness. Everything about the D700 is great although the live view will take a bit of getting used to. Like the D100 and D200 I find in my old age that the notch on the on off switch is too small, wearing gloves in cold weather makes it awkward to feel. I recommend anyone thinking of going for an upgrade from the D200, forget the D300 and go straight for the D700 the extra cost is worth every penny. Try not to buy kit lenses although as a stop gap they will do a pretty good job. The camera only being as good as its lens, fast Sigma lenses go well with the D700. Buy and enjoy you will not be disappointed.17

Review for Nikon D80 Digital SLR Camera (Body Only):
The thing I liked about the EOS system is that once you have learnt it it is intuitive and simple to use. On the other hand Nikon was always a bit of a hassle for me and even though I loved the way they were so adaptable I just couldn't justify spending thousands on a new rig. So I stuck to my guns and in the end most of the rest of the press corp followed and now Canon are a ubiquitous as Nikon used to be.
So now it is a decade later and I have finally given in long after digital became de-rigeur. Last week I bought my first Nikon (D80)in fact it is my first digital SLR.
I didn't want to spend a fortune in case it was a disaster and I wanted a decent performer with all the functions I was used to but when it came down to it I guess I just fancied a change. So now I own a D80 with the most basic lens that has any chance of portraiture use (18 - 135) and do you know what? It is great.
Everything is backwards compared to the Canons - rotation of focus and zoom, thumb wheels etc and that is proving to be an issue but I will get over it. The viewfinder is superb and the focus and exposure meter are top notch. Best of all it actually deliver in AF and Auto mode so all those years of taking spot readings and re-framing are over. It even feels nice. Not weak and plasticy but solid. My only issue is that the lag between pressing the trigger and hearing the (fake I assume) mirror trip is still there. Physical film cameras have that one in the bag even now. Otherwise only one thing remains outstanding..
Why didn't I do this before?

Review for Nikon D80 Digital SLR Camera (Body Only):
D80 kit with 18-135
It has taken me more than 15 years to commit to a new system and a new manufacturer. Previously I was a pro using the old FD and later auto focus ranges by Canon. I absolutely loved the old T-90 (still the best camera ever made in my book)and EOS 1's. I had therefore become so reliant on the EOS system that when it came to change I avoided any other brand.
