First time web cam user

I have researched a number of these web cams having never used one before. I use Vista Home premium O/S and wanted the cam to use with Skype. Having read some reviews on this webcam I had some concerns over software installation. I followed instructions including uninstalling Norton 360 (the only way I could find of disabling this Norton product)and it installed perfectly and I have used it with Skype and been complimented on the clarity of reception - both audio and video. The additional avatars and filters are fun too. Very pleased so far with my purchase.

good little cam

Have had this cam a couple of days now I've never really used one much in the past but it is simple to set up and use, only difficulty I am finding is the mic, I have vista which I think is the problem, I can hear sound when played back from a recording but it is very faint, if mic is held close to your mouth it seems to meet the set up requirements in windows etc but then the cam will be looking down your throat when in use, I have messed around with settings in the control panel but haven't found one that fixes this as yet maybe in time I will or maybe someone will post the answer one day but I didn't get it because it had a mic I was more interested in the camera aspect itself and it did get some good reviews on here and I have to say the image is as good as I expected, have set it up to work with yahoo messenger and skype and it is crisp and sharp, also pretty good in low light too so all in all I'm pleased with this little cam, if I can sort out the sound issue with the mic that will be a bonus, I gave it 5 stars as it is more a vista problem with the mic and it wouldn't be fair to mark down the webcam because of that

Excellent quality and works with Vista and Skype

I have Vista and wanted a cheap, but decent webcam to work in Skype and Live Messenger. I installed the software, connected the camera and it works. Can't say fairer than that. It fits onto just about any monitor - TFT, laptop or whatever.

Painful installation

This is my second webcam, and compared to my first one, my goodness, I couldn't believe how long it took to install the whole thing from start to finish - and unfortunately it crashed my system (Windows XP) twice in the process. Now, after an hour and a bit, it all seems to be working. A definite plus point is that although the room is only half lit, it is amazing how bright the image looks....obviously the picture automatically gets adjusted to the light conditions, so it is a definite bonus. The sound is clear and is perfect for webchats. I hope to explore its other features as well, but having gone through a very painful start, I just haven't any willpower left. Painful start - only 3 stars I am afraid.

One of the best webcams

The camera is one of the best webcams I've used. I considered the 40 Pound VX-6000, too, but decided it was too expensive for my needs. The best thing with this camera, compared to Logitech and Creative models, is it does *not* install tons of hidden drivers, hidden DLLs, and hidden spyware; the Logitech and Creative installation utilities place tons of hidden stuff on your hard drive. The TeckNet M0001 was a very clean installation. IT DOES NOT NEED THE DRRIVER AT ALL.

I use Windows Live Messenger (aka MSN Messenger 9.0) so I get seamless integration, although I've seen people use it painlessly with Skype. It has the best webcam image quality I've seen. Windows Live Messenger has been rated by various PC magazines to be the best video chat client software, and I always had good results with Creative and Logitech cameras in the past (using MSN Messenger, which has been rebranded as Windows Live Messenger, or WLM).

In short, this is a great webcam that won't disappoint you

LifeCam - easy peasy

In short it does what it says it does. I have had other cameras but this one is as close to plug and play that i have seen.

The microphone on it is superb, and can track a voice some 6 to 7ft away effectively.

for me its an essential put-in-the-bag for my business trips

neat !

This is a pretty neat piece of kit, i manage to install it on my vista easily. But after re-formating my computer i can't seem to install it again, maybe im not doin what i done last time but i have no time to mess around with it but perfect if you install it properly no hassle.

Excellent product

Works very well on XP and is fine for talking to family and friends. Picture quality and sound is good for that and you get a load of special effects to play with which is fun.

Sure there are more expensive webcams available but for basic everyday use it's great.

Not Vista compatible

Sadly, whatever this product might claim, and whatever other reviewers might say about it, it is NOT compatible with Windows Vista. The first thing the installation disc does is display a message to this effect. If, like me, you plough on with the installation regardless, you may reach the point where you are told the installation has been successful - but not successful enough to operate the camera!
I'm sure this is a good product on other operating systems (XP for example), but if you have Vista (which has a lot to answer for in its general uncooperativeness with other software) it just won't work.

High quality, compact size and fascinating features in a elegantly designed webcam.

As I always trusted logitech products beacuse of their thorough research and testing phases. This product has exceeded my expectations. I think it is the best notebook webcam out in the market.Great product in relation to monetary value paid for it. Below is some of my well thought and accumulated perceptions of the product that may help you make good buying decision:

Image and video quality: Best in the market especially if you are on the move.

Installation: 5 minutes with simple steps.

Size: Very small size designed specifically to move with special sponge carrying bag.

Features: High quality, ulra automatic adjustment feature would make it an ample webcam in any lighting environment (sunny, dark, cloudy, in room etc.).

Good luck and I take an opportunity to recommend this webcam to individuals who value innovation, quality and value based satisfaction.

Excellent

I am not a computer wiz and the only reason i got a webcam was so i could see my friend in trini. But i love it. It takes very clear pics and is very easy to set up.

Skype webcam

I have now used this webcam for over a year. It is an excellent item. Very clear pictures and works beautifully with Skype.

Excellent Webcam

This webcam is great! There is absolutely no need to spend any more money on a webcam - the quality of image is excellent, the software is very useful and all the settings are totally customisable.

A breeze to install and run on xp, and it is actually an attractive silver colour as opposed to the white one displayed... and for under £10, you can’t go wrong!

Excellent Value

When you consider what you have to pay for some techno gadgets these days, £17 for something that works is pretty impressive. Read the reviews and bit the bullet and it installed very easily (doesn't really take too long, so don't go away or you'll miss vital bits. The extra bits are quite cute). Rather precariously balanced on top of my flat screen, as 'clip' is not very tight, but the mic and headphone set works well too. Think i may have missed the instructions on adjusting it in the set up and it took a while to work it out, but it works perfectly with Skype and i wouldn't hesitate to buy another one!

Didn't work for me ??

Bought from Amazon for £14 or so after reading reviews. I have Windows XP Home Edition. Loaded software OK but on plugging in the Found Hardware Wizard said Error file not located. However, it did work the first time but on restarting PC it didn't, and wasn't detected thereafter. I tried everything including menu help, hardware help, uninstall reinstalled, do this do that umpteen times, emailed Microsoft, no reply, forum here, no response so in the end just gave up. Hardware help said it may be to do with the fact I previously had a Logitech webcam and to download the latest software then try it. Still nothing. Giving it One Star as although I'm sure it's a perfectly good gadget it the right hands, all it gave me was several hours of wasted time and frustration.

Creative Live! Cam Optia

This webcam is excellent. It worked perfectly and quality is brilliant. However, it took ages setting up with all the bundled programs. Then I made the mistake of doing the online update which took another 20 minutes! I finally got it going after well over an hour.
It also works great with Skype. Smart Face Tracking is good. It follows your face over quite a wide angle. It looks very good & seems of a high quality. Only one problem, it doesn't clip very securely on top of my LCD monitor though!

Worked straight out of the box but image quality isn't brilliant

Although I have yet to use the webcam in anger, the installation went as well as could be hoped for, and the software once installed has good functionality. The camera itself looks good, however the image is littered with bright dots, suggesting defects in the CCD. Still, for the price of the camera, and given that it's only for MSN/Skype I can't fault it.

Not a great buy for a Mac

This is a cheap product and it feels it and the picture quality is bad and the software for it is absolutely minimal and only works for Skype. It won't work with all the other built in apps that use a webcam unless you purchase additional software.

Instead spend the extra and get a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 Webcam, which gives a Hi-Def video quality, works with everything and needs no software, it works out of the box. Oh and the mic is excellent and is linked into a single USB connection to the Mac.

I am not sure when OS X included universal drivers for webcams but I am running 10.5 on both my Macs and they worked beautifully out of the box.
