Better than previous

This was bought as a replacement for the old video nano, as i found i needed more space so this ipod seemed perfect for that and it is. I can now fit all my music, videos and photos without constantly having to delete stuff off of it to fit it all in like i had to do with my old nano. The genius tool is good but i takes a while to get used to it, but the ipod itself is well made i think sounds louder than my old nano. The only downsides i have found and the reason that ive not given it a 5 star rating is that i managed to scratch the screen easily buy just putting it in my pocket with some change, though i could have avoided this with a case which i do highly recomend. Also you have to up-date itunes which seems like a sneaky way of apple getting us all to download it. But these tbh are personal preference so dont be put off it is a very good peice of kit.

Incredible technology

I bought one of these on first sight. OK, it was a little treat to myself and I have had a Nano since 2005 and pretty much used it every day since. That was a great little gadget but this has gone to another level completely. I can't get over how light and thin it is AND contain 8Gb. My previous Nano wasn't exactly podgy but this new model makes that look positively obese in comparison. Even the naysayers would have to admit that the technology is very impressive, I don't know how they are going to top it next time bar including some sort of video capture device... maybe?

OK, before you think this looks like it has been written by some sort of Apple employee I have to point out 2 aspects which I don't like.

1) why the hell is the headphone socket placed at the base of the nano? That just seems plain illogical, there's nothing at the top that could prevent it from being plugged in there. It's just not right.

2) as with other reviewers here I don't like the fact that it can no longer charge from things like docks etc. I have a small radio dock and it was good to know I could charge it up without having to occupy a USB port on my Mac. I hope, in time, there will be a work around this. Having said all that it does seem to charge up very quickly, much quicker than the 2005 Nano.

If you do have a radio dock tho you will be impressed that it comes with its own dock adaptor. That was something I wasn't expecting but it was a nice bonus - just a shame it can't charge from the radio dock.

Apart from the 2 gripes mentioned above I think it is great and would recommend it.

8 GB? Don't think so.

I purchased this product and when it arrived at my house I was very impressed by apples ipod touch. However when I was syncing all my data (music, vids etc.) I was only to find that the actual capticy of the ipod was not 8GB but 7GB, how cheap.

I have been brought into the 21st century!

All my friends have Ipods so I thought i would get one. Couldnt afford a Ipod nano saw the Ipod shuffle on offer and thought i would give one ago.
Its very easy to use, holds plenty of songs, is easy to download songs onto and you can take songs off and add songs on easily. An ideal modern walkman!

Great piece of kit

I bought this for my daughter for christmas and my first impressions are that this is one very impresive piece of kit. It feels very well built considering the thiness and size ,this is the first ipod in the family it is a replacement for an old fashion mp3 player. Using the itunes download tool makes buying and loading the ipod easy , you'll be an expert within minutes ! ! The picture quality of the screen is totally amazing again considering the size and thickess. The instructions supplied in the packaging are a bit basic , but a complete set of instructions can be downloaded from the ipod web site. I really can't think of any negitives only lots of +points.

Truly A Wonderful Little Gadget

I already have an iPod Nano 3rd generation, and I said to myself I wasn't going to purchase a new one this year. However I couldn't help myself when I visited the Apple Store and was completely won over by this little beauty. I was drawn to the purple one this time round (my previous ones being blue), and I just had to have one! It really is a fantastic gadget - design and function wise. You can't help but look at it in amazement. I can't fault it apart from the fact the battery doesn't seem to last as long as the 3rd gen and there's still the same old problem of missing artwork on cover flow. However the new functions and voice recorder capabilities (you will need to buy Apple's upgrade earphones with mic to use that function), make up for this (yay!) Also, it seems a lot lighter than the 3rd generation.

I can see the other reviews are complaining that the Nano 4th gen is not compatable with previous iPod accessories, in particular an fm transmitter to play it in your car. A couple of months ago I bought a Griffin ITrip Autopilot from Amazon for my 3rd Gen Nano. Well it works perfectly with my 4th gen too!, so I totally recommend it.

Charging Issues Apple haven't mentioned - Please Read!

I upgraded to the new touch mainly as i had run our of room on my old 16Gb model, and i was happy, very happy when it arrived, it does what it says on the tin and is a sexy gadget... but the you plug it into your speaker dock (i have tried 3 different ones) and it will play, but it won't charge your ipod. this is the same even on the bose sounddock systems and is due to a hardware change by apple to it's 'universal' data port, so it will not be fixable through apple's firmware updates.... WHY OH WHY OH WHY!!!!!

...and the drawbacks

They made ipods more techical over the years. When I first put my ipod in I was asked to create an itunes account which luckly I already had one so that was easy. They promised voice recording I don't see that on the menu of my ipod. Screen too small for video I don't know why nano went video anyway as the ipod classic can do that and it's better on it. I also didn't accept my ipod charger which worked on my 1st gen nano and even touch. This doesn't just apply to blue 8GB nanos, it applies to all 4th gen ipod nanos.

You are stuck with iTunes - the reason for this ratings

iTunes sucks if you have a PC.

It is STUPENDOUSLY slow (do a web search for"why is itunes so slow" if you don't beleive me.

Worse, Apple prevent it from working with Windows Media Player (or vice versa, do you care why?)

To put 1GB on a 2GB shuffle took a few HOURS.

However, there is a third party vendor MGTEK who will sell you a module for Media Player that allows you to connect an iPod. It will cost you $20. (No I don't work for them!!) Its unacceptable to me that you should need to do this though.

What are the good things about the Shuffle, if you want to spend that $20.

Its really small and light - it will clip just about anywhere.
It feel robust.
The sound quality is very good.

But as a premium product with a premium price, it should come with premium software.

(By the way, in the time it took me to write this, Media Player has filled my 2GB shuffle)

I like it. :)

This Media player is as small as your average credit card and weighs about 65 grams. It has a 2.5" TFT screen which supports 16.7 million colours. Yes, it surely gives a beautiful, vivid colour display.

It comes in different capacity. 2 GB, 4 GB, 8 GB and a 32 GB. I have this 2 GB one. Reason I chose the smallest capacity was because I didn't think I'd need to store many files. Further, it has an SD card slot. So I got myself a 4 GB SD card and that gave me 6 GB of space.

Now, what are its capabilities? It plays mp3, wma,wav and aac. It also has the capability to play videos in the following formats; MPEG, WMV9, MPEG-4, DivX, XviD. Mind you, you still need to convert the videos to the size of 320 x 240. They have a converter software along with the application that comes with the Media player. But the converter as I experienced, only converts all the videos to wmv. I used a software called Any Video Converter to convert my video files. Get the free version.

It stores photos in JPEG, BMP, PNG, TIFF formats. It has a voice recorder which I find the quality quite good, because it kind of diminishes the background noises. It also comes with an FM radio. Which I think a good thing.



The downside of the media player is that, when you use the SD card, it is not fully intergrated to the media player. Which means, they don't play automatically like the music or movies you store in the flash memory. For me, it is still okay. I store my music on the flash memory and only my movies in the SD card.

Another con is, also related to the SD card, whenever I try to do a forward or rewind of movies from the SD card, it gets jammed up sometimes. Freezes. The solution to this is, reset it. You need a pin with you at all times. People complain about this. But what I do is, I wrap a pin in paper and just keep it in the leather case which I bought with the player.

Overall, I would say, I really love the player and worth the money I paid for it. If it were not for the drawbacks, I would have given it 5 stars.

Love it!
I just set one up for a friend - I already have an Ipod Touch or would have bought one for myself.
Fantastic technology, looks and sounds great,and yes my friend loves it too.

I have both Ipod and Zen, I give both 5 stars but the zen pips it on sound and build with a better video quality.

if you are thinking of buying an mp3 player then look no further! this is the real deal very easy to operate and transfer files and very big on sound!!! it is very small and compact and will rival any of the other leading brands on the market!!

Same review for two models?

Am thinking of buying a Zen X-fi8GB so I browse the different models and also look at the customer reviews and what do I find? The same review for the 8GB as the 16GB. This makes me feel that the whole purpose of a customer review loses its credibility. It gives me absolutely no confidence. What I want from a customer review is a good and honest opinion about that one particular model.
